Agenda
성수동은 공업지대의 역사 속에서 형성된 인공적인 환경으로, 오늘날에도 나무와 녹지가 부족한 동네다. 이번 프로젝트는 이러한 맥락 속에서 ‘도시에 자연을 어떻게 담을 것인가’라는 질문에 답하고자, 화분이라는 가장 단순한 자연의 그릇에서 출발해 성수에 자연을 수직적으로 쌓아올리는 건축을 제안한다.
Seongsu is an artificial environment shaped by its history as an industrial district, and even today it lacks trees and green spaces. This project addresses the question of “how to bring nature into the city,” starting from the simplest vessel of nature, the flowerpot, and proposes an architecture that stacks nature vertically in Seongsu.
Concept
프로젝트는 화분의 구조적 원리를 건축적으로 확장하여, 모듈화된 V자형 구조를 반복·결합함으로써 흙을 확보하고 식물을 수직적으로 담아내는 방식을 택한다. 모듈은 벌집처럼 쌓이며 구조적 안정성을 갖추고, 남향 배치와 꺾임을 통해 충분한 채광을 확보한다. 일부 모듈은 들어올려 계단과 슬로프가 되고, 토심의 깊이에 따라 작은 식물부터 큰 나무까지 담을 수 있다. 방문자는 건물 전체를 산책하며 층층이 배치된 자연을 경험하고, 인공적인 성수의 맥락 속에서 새로운 ‘수직 식물원’을 만난다.
The project expands the structural principle of the flowerpot into architecture, adopting a system of modular V-shaped structures that repeat and interlock to secure soil and contain plants vertically. The modules stack like a honeycomb, gaining structural stability, while their southern orientation and angled form maximize daylight. Some modules are lifted to create stairs and slopes, and varying soil depths allow both small plants and large trees to grow. Visitors walk through the entire building, experiencing layers of nature, and encounter a new “vertical botanical garden” within the artificial context of Seongsu.
